The jerky has a very dark, deep flavor that complements the natural umami of the beef. The chunks of beef range in size from slivers to 1/4″ x 3″ x 2″ slabs, but all is very tender. Despite the brown sugar, the recipe is not overly sweet, and the tamari and worcestershire carry the day, imparting a rich, savory tone. This is not a “candied” jerky — and seems a good choice for constant consumers. Garlic, tamarind, and anchovy add some breadth, creating a unique and complex jerky.
The $9 per pack price is a bit much for one pack of jerky, but a good way to test this one out. The $29 per month for four bags is on par with other jerky subscriptions.
