Hello Date Night! Birchbox is a beauty sampling subscription box. You’ll get at least 5 items every month to try out and see what you love. Birchbox is $10 a month, plus you accumulate points after reviewing the items in your box! You’ll get 10 points per item reviewed, and 100 points are equal to $10 in the shop.
Every month you can select between a sample choice to get a box tailored to your profile, or a pre-curated box. This is the curated Date Night Box! You can get this box as your first box in a subscription with code DATENIGHT (while supplies last).
The information card details the product and also the price for the full-size products. If you are not sure how to review your box for points, BirchBox listed the website page on the top of the information card: Birchbox.com/MyBox
Cynthia Rowley Beauty Brightening Illuminator ($10.18) Ok, this is calculated off the value with the built in applicator. I absolutely adore beauty products and cosmetics with those, especially when they are otherwise a messy product. This would add just the right amount of shimmer while conserving the good stuff. This comes out pretty quickly (not as fast as the lip tar though) and because you’re not just using a weensy bit the value calculation is a bit off. Be careful with it! Swatch below.
Catherine Malandrino Romance de Provence Eau de Parfum ($2.82) Oh no, the vial vile! I can’t stand this type of container at all and now that I’ve opened it and tried it it’s going straight to the pass it on pile because it’s just too messy (and in fact, had totally leaked in my box). For me personally the value of this item is $0. This smelled like a powdery soft version of Angel, with less complexity.
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar Liquid Lipstick – The Reds ($9.14) Mine’s in Strumpet! It’s a “seedless grape red” although I would have delightfully have received the NSFW shade as well. Love the names!
This is absolutely the season for matte lip liquids and mousses – they are all over the place! This color is pretty spicy and it looks perfect for date nights (or whenever you just want to be bold). It comes out very fast and you really only need a dot of it (and the card notes that!). To me this is more of a lip stain but it stays on well. You can tell from the swatches that I sort of got it all over the place.
Whish Renewing Mud Mask ($11) This frenetic weather has my skin totally crazy so I was excited to try the new Whish mask. It combines both mud and clay for exfoliating and softening plus botanical enzymes for renewing. This is one of those products you’ll end up cutting open because it’s so pricey and works so well but there’s not a lot of it – the tube isn’t nearly full, and it really needs different packaging. The product in mine starts around the words mud mask. Dare I say something foil or a tub would have worked so much better?! FYI – I didn’t have any issues but this is one of those products that makes some people red/irritates their skin.
amika Bombshell Blowout Spray ($3) For wet or dry hair! I love it when they give me permission to use on both! This protects and volumizes while smoothing and I love that it contains sea buckthorn for antioxidants and fatty acids – it just sounds like a great idea for aging hair (or caring for youthful hair!).
I selected this box on purpose, but it certainly wasn’t my personal favorite Birchbox ever. It did have $36 in value but obviously didn’t feature the full-size packaging/applicators that help you get the most out of your product. But what can I say – no matter what you get in your Birchbox it’s usually worth the $5 after reviewing for points, and mine was for sure (plus if you are interested in these products, now you have my warnings to help you get every drop from these guys!).
