An August 2017 Film Box Spoiler from Boxwalla!
The August Film Box features two all time great filmmakers : Andrei Tarkovsky andIngmar Bergman. The Theme ‘Sculpting in Time’ is inspired by Tarkovsky’s book of the same name. In this box, we’ll be talking about how both these directors tried to figure out how to ‘sculpt in time’. Tarkovsky was influenced by both Bergman and Bresson (whom we showcased last year), but took what he learned and created an extraordinary cinematic language that was uniquely his.
Tarkovsky on Bergman : “I am only interested in the views of two people : one is called Bresson, and one called Bergman.”
Bergman on Tarkovsky : “Tarkovsky is for me the greatest, the one who invented a new language, true to the nature of film, as it captures life as a reflection, life as a dream.”
One of the two films, we will be showcasing is Tarkovsky’s ‘The Stalker’ that was released just this week by The Criterion Collection. This is a film that cinephiles have been WAITING for Criterion to restore and release.
Subscribers have a choice of DVD or Blu Ray (at the same price).
